In order to help consumers rationally choose and purchase health food, prevent fraud and false propaganda and other illegal violations of misleading, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration (SAMA) specifically prompted as follows:
Health food refers to food that claims to have health functions or to supplement vitamins, minerals and other nutrients for the purpose of food. Health food is not a drug, not for the purpose of treating diseases, can regulate certain functions of the body, suitable for specific groups of people to eat. According to the food safety law, health food must be registered or filed. At present, there are mainly 27 types of health-care functions allowed by the regulatory authorities to be registered according to law, and the health-care functions allowed to be supplemented with vitamins and minerals according to the law.
