The inspection and quarantine work of imported food/agricultural products in Korea is carried out by two government agencies respectively. The quarantine work is entirely carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Food (MIFAFF). The inspection work of food and agricultural products (excluding livestock products) is carried out by the Food and Drug Safety Department under the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family of Korea, and the quarantine of livestock products. MIFAFF is responsible for the inspection. KFDA is mainly responsible for the formulation of Korean food and drug inspection laws and regulations, inspection methods and standards, while six local FDA subordinates specifically implement the relevant laws and regulations and standards formulated by KFDA.
