Bi Kexin, head of the Import and Export Food Safety Bureau of the General Administration of Customs, said that by the first half of 2018, a total of 2 255 kinds of imported food products of 8 categories from 176 countries (regions) had been assessed and admitted, 17 000 food producers from 92 countries (regions) had been registered, 92 foreign exporters of imported food on file and 36 000 domestic importers had been registered.
"In the first half of 2018, a total of 64.04 billion US dollars of imported food were inspected and quarantined, up 12.9 percent from the same period last year." Bikexin said that 691 batches, 23,000 tons and $4.812 million of unqualified food, involving 19 categories of products, mainly beverages, pastries and biscuits, sugar and so on. Fourteen types of unqualified reasons were involved, including unqualified labels, unqualified quality and excessive food additives.
In the first half of 2018, the General Administration of Customs listed 239 imported food enterprises as risk warning notices, and implemented tighter supervision. Closely follow more than 260 websites in 53 countries (regions), strengthen risk information monitoring and early warning, and properly respond to imported food safety incidents.
